The picturesque village Thiersee is embedded in an idyllic mountain scenery on the extensive high altitude plateau of the Thier Lake Valley on 678 m altitude and lies around 9 km from Kufstein am Inn. The highest point of the valley is the peak of the Hinterer Sonnwendjoch with 1,986 m, which is also the highest mountain of the Mangfall mountain range which in turn is part of the Bavarian foothills of the Alps.
