About Thiersee - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Thiersee - recreational holidays in a romantic mountain village!
The picturesque village Thiersee is embedded in an idyllic mountain scenery on the extensive high altitude plateau of the Thier Lake Valley on 678 m altitude and lies around 9 km from Kufstein am Inn. The highest point of the valley is the peak of the Hinterer Sonnwendjoch with 1,986 m, which is also the highest mountain of the Mangfall mountain range which in turn is part of the Bavarian foothills of the Alps. Thiersee, which is situated at the lake of the same name, is the centre of the valley and offers the perfect opportunity for holiday makers to retreat surrounded by a stunning mountain panorama and unspoilt nature. Traditional guest houses and restaurants invite guests to enjoy the typical Austrian hospitality and Tyrolean unhurried lifestyle.
Hinterthiersee is part of this municipality and offers both the small, easily navigable Thiersee-Mitterland family ski centre as well as the Tirolina ski area, which are ideal for beginners and families alike. Moreover, the Thiersee Valley is known for its cross-country and hiking possibilities. A range of hiking trails and cross-country trails of different difficulty levels leads through this magnificent natural landscape.
SkiThe lift pass "Tirolina & Familienzentrum Schneeberg-Mitterland" provides access to the Tirolina ski area at the Haltjoch with 4 km of piste as well as another 0.8 km of piste at the Familien-Skizentrum Schneeberg-Mitterland. The areas are especially good for beginners and families with children and offer an ideal start to skiing.
In the lower region, close to the ski hire shop, there is a small practice lift for beginners in the Tirolina ski area. Although the ski area is known for its snow security, the slopes can additionally be covered in snow by machines. A black piste goes down from the mountain station at 1,077 m, it has been homologated by FIS. Here, future ski racers find perfect terrain to practice. More experienced skiers can try out the two ski routes that lead through the forested grounds off the prepared pistes.
In the Familienzentrum Schneeberg-Mitterland, the "Kinderland" children's area and ski carousel, as well as the practice lift, are ideal for the littlest beginners. A ski school can also be found in the immediate vicinity. Also worth noting is the umbrella bar located at the end of the piste.
Attention:The Schneeberg lift in the Familienzentrum Schneeberg-Mitterland is currently closed!
Thiersee is a quiet and cosy place in a picturesque nature setting. After having enjoyed the local cuisine and familiar atmosphere in the evening, you can round off the day with a cosy walk on one of the several winter hiking tracks.
The toboggan runs offer an alternative to skiing, there is e.g. the 3.5 km long run at the Kala Alm, which guarantees toboggan fun for young and old. The frozen Thier Lake is also the perfect spot for some curling or ice skating. A good time for night owls can be had in the variety of inns and ski huts in Thiersee, where a Jagertea or mulled wine can be enjoyed.
All in all, the Thiersee Valley has a good variety of offers for cross-country skiing. A network of 18 km of tracks surrounded by the stunning, majestic Kaiser mountains can be experienced. There is e.g. a 3 km circular cross-country trail directly in Land, or the Sonnseit trail in Hinterthiersee as well as the See trail in Vorderthiersee with 5 km each.
More ambitious cross-country fans should try the trail in Bayrischzell around 20 km away, which can be reached with a free ski bus and which guarantees a great time with more than 100 trail km. The tracks are of different difficulty levels and lead through beautiful valleys.
