Walchsee - a holiday experience!
Walchsee is located right on the shore of the lake at an altitude of 658 m. The sunny resort is situated in the centre of a picturesque landscape at the foot of the Zahmen Kaiser. Winter hikers and cross-country skiers can take off from the Walchsee on vast tours, curling fans and ice skaters will thoroughly enjoy the lakes that have frozen over and adventurers will get their money's worth with an extensive snowshoe hike! Not only children's pulses will be racing at a tobogganing party at the local tobogganing run. Skiers can get to the Zahmer Kaiser lifts in a matter of minutes, and the lower mountain pastures can be reached by ski bus.
SkiThe ski area "Zahmer Kaiser" (660 - 1,200 m) is the local ski area for Walchsee and offers 13 km of piste and 10 lifts. Especially families value this area of the Kaiser mountains with the softly flowing, wide pistes. The majority of the piste are blue, black runs are not existent here. Little snow enthusiasts will be perfectly cared for in the local ski schools with kid's area including an Indian tepee, snow tunnel and wave piste.
With the lift pass "Alpen Plus" you have additional access to six further ski areas (see ski region) - for example the ski area Spitzingsee-Tegernsee with the popular MINI Snowpark.
Apres ski in Walchsee and Kössen will definitely give you your money's worth. In the "Londoner" and in the "Enjoy" in Kössen or the "Kaminstube" in Walchsee you will experience everything that is a part of apres ski - for decent prices! You should also try the regional cuisine, such as "Kaiserschmarrn" or grilled goat ribs.
Once per week the Zahmer Kaiser offers evening fun on the pistes. Tobogganers can speed down three different runs in Walchsee - if you feel like it you can try the 3 km long run in the ski area Wilder Kaiser. Snowbike workshops offer great fun in Schwendt. Approx. 80 km of winter hiking trails invite you to explore the region of Kaiserwinkl. Or grab a pair of snowshoes and get going. On the ice rink in Kössener Dorfplatz you can spend your time curling or practising your twirls. An ice rink can also be found in Walchsee, opened daily in the winter season.
The cross-country trails in the region Kaiserwinkl are very popular and have rightly been awarded with the Tyrolean cross-country ski trail seal of quality! All cross-country fans will find a trail network of approx. 252.5 km (127 km in classic- and 125.5 km in skating style) of trails prepared for classic and skating-style cross-country skiing.
The longest and also the most challenging track is the Kaiserwinkl trail. This round course connects the holiday resorts Kössen, Walchsee and Schwendt on a length of 23 km. It is quieter on the valley trails in e.g. Schwendt and Walchsee, which are between 2 and 3 km long. On a length of 5.5 to 9 km the Hochau trail in Kössen offers an intermediate level for everyone with a little experience in cross-country skiing and fitness. More marvellous trails in the region are the Griesenau trail nearby Schwendt, the lake trail around lake Walchsee (8 km) or the 13 km long Miesberg trail. In and around Walchsee, a total of more than 70 kilometres of trail wait for the fans of Nordic skiing.
The "Koasalauf" (Tyrolean: Emperor run) takes place every February (07 - 08/02/2015) and is a true highlight, with approx. 2,000 cross-country skiers taking place every year.
The trail network in the region of Kaiserwinkl has been awarded the cross-country trail seal of quality.
