Klagenfurt is the capital of the federal state of Carinthia in Austria and is situated on the river Glan. Lived first in XII century, now has a population of approximately 100,000 inhabitants. The economic capital, cultural and historic region of Carinthia.
It is famous as a mountain vacation spot, both south and north, numerous parks and a series of 23 castles on the periphery. During summer, the city hosts the festival Altstadtzauber (Magic Old Forts). Town square was built in 1518. At first it was outside the old city walls, the family founded Spanheim. In the center is Lindwurm-Brunnen (fountain dragon - the heraldic animal of the city), a monument erected in 1593 to commemorate the town's beginnings. Dragon Fountain, consisting of the Dragon and Hercules, was completed in 1636.
Municipal Theatre is an Art Nouveau building, built between 1908 and 1910, replacing the ballrooms of 17th century. In 1998, the theater was renovated and an extension was built by architect Günter Domenig. Alter Platz (old market) - one of the streets that Duke Bernhard founded the city, turned into a pedestrian zone in 1961. Notable landscapes include Lake Wörthersee, the warmest European Alpine lake and Lindwurm-Brunnen (fountain-dragon).
