Hüttau im Pongau – oasis of relaxation in the Salzburger Land!
Right in the heart of the Salzburger Pongau, located between Bischofshofen and Radstadt, lies the charming village of Hüttau-Niedernfritz, with appox. 1,600 inhabitants. The cosy pensions and quaint hotels, as well as a the traditional inns, welcome all winter guests who come here for a winter holiday experience. The wonderful mountain panorama and the quiet, yet central location of the resort area a perfect basis for any type of holiday. Further, it is perfectly connected to the general infrastructure and therefore is an ideal access point to explore the Salzburger Land for all Alpine winter sports fans, as well as winter hikers. Famous tourist attractions, such as the "Eisriesenwelt" ice cave, the Salzkammergut, the Lichtensteinklamm gorge or the beautiful home town of Mozart - Salzburg - are easily accessible from Hüttau. This romantic location at 709 m altitude is each approx. 20 minutes by car from the local capital St. Johann im Pongau and from the great family ski area Werfenweng. The great Salzburger Sportwelt is even only 15 minutes drive away, via the Tauernautobahn. Approx. 240 km of piste await you there and leave no wishes unfulfilled.
SkiThe great "Ski amadé", the largest ski region in Austria, is only 15 minutes by car from Hüttau and offers a breathtaking 760 km of piste and 270 lifts, accessible with the lift pass "Ski amadé". From Flachau, the various lifts transport all winter sports fans easily into the Salzburger Sportwelt, right into the heart of all action in this massive ski region.
The Salzburger Sportwelt alone already offers 240 km of piste and 92 lift systems. The vast lift connections Kleinarl/Flachauwinkl/Zauchensee and Flachau/Wagrain/St. Johann are the top destinations within the lift pass union and have come to fame due to such events as e.g. the Alpine Ski World Cup in Flachau itself. The "Ski amadé" unites the smaller regions of Salzburger Sportwelt, Schladming-Dachstein, Hochkönig, Gastein and Großarl to this mega region, covering a vast amount of peaks and hills.
For all those who prefer quick connections and manageable ski areas, the smaller, but diverse ski area Werfenweng is only approx. 20 minutes from Hüttau by car. A total of 9 lifts and 27 km of well-prepared pistes of all levels of difficulty provide great entertainment for both beginners and pros alike. Families will also feel welcome here. The highlight is a 6 km long panorama descent, which covers approx. 800 m difference in altitude and challenges its riders in many ways.
If you are looking for some fun away from the pistes, there are various offers to spend some leisure time, such as curling, snowtubing, and many natural toboggan runs to try. From the resort centre, the local surroundings can easily explored via the well-maintained hiking trails.
Hüttau, just like the rest of the region, is well-known for ore mining since the 14th century. Respectively, the resort name Hüttau is derived from the many mining huts at the Weyeranger between Hüttau and Niedernfritz, where the ore was processed after mining. Today, guests can visit the old mine "Kupferzeche Hüttau" which is a show mine and museum, displaying the situation of the miners during the centuries.
Nordic sports is a big thing in the Salzburger Sportwelt, and is especially popular in this region. In total there are 360 km of trails available in both classic and skating style. Hütten's neighbouring resort Werfenweng alone, has 30 km of tracks to offer, all located at an average altitude of approx. 1,000 m.
The popular trail for the Tauern Marathon is 60 km long and runs through the entire Salzburger Sportwelt. This beautiful trail is connected to a number of other trails and is very diverse, offering great winter entertainment and some beautiful landscapes.
