Fusch - fun and enjoyment on the piste!
Located in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park in Salzburger Land, Fusch am Großglockner is a modern resort that has still retained its original charm. An important alpine pass, Fusch is the starting point for the world-famous Großglockner high alpine road. Additionally, Fusch is one of the most famous spa resorts in Salzburger Land. With the famous Fürstenquellen springs, Fusch provides for your relaxation. Those looking for fun on the piste and action will definitely get their money's worth due to the connection to several ski areas. Especially recommended is the glacier ski area on the Kitzsteinhorn, which is reachable over nearby Kaprun.
SkiWith the ski pass "Ski Alpin Card" you can ski in the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Fieberbrunn as well as in the ski resorts of Zell am See/Kaprun on an amazing 408 km of pistes. All under the motto "1 ticket, 3 regions, endless mountains".
In Zell am See and Kaprun you have access to 138 kilometres of pistes and over 47 modern lifts in the two ski areas Maiskogel and Schmittenhöhe as well as the glacier ski area on the Kitzsteinhorn, which extends to over 3,203 m above sea level.
With its 41 km, the Kitzsteinhorn offers mostly medium-difficulty pistes for beginners and pleasure skiers. Wide carving pistes and long, sporty descents, such as the 5 km long piste from the mountain station of the Magnetköpfl lift, make the skier's heart beat faster. From Kaprun you can reach the glacier with the glacier jet and the panorama lift or from December 2019 with the K-onnection directly from the centre.
From Zell am See you can quickly reach the Schmittenhöhe ski area (2,000 m) with the CityXpress, the TrassXpress or the Schmittenhöhenbahn lift, which offers runs of all levels of difficulty. Experienced skiers can try their hand at the 4 km long route run, which is considered to be the most difficult in the entire ski area, or at the Black Mamba with a gradient of up to 63%.
The Maiskogel ski area, on the other hand, is particularly suitable for families, with a large number of wide and blue pistes. The Maiskogelköpfel lift is also the longest ski run in the region, at about 7 km.
Each of the three ski areas has its own fun park with tables, slides and jumps. Freeriders will also find plenty of opportunities. A total of 5 freeride routes and a comprehensive information system with infobases and info points are available. At the Schmittenhöhe, for example, you can let off steam on the open ski area under the Sonnkogelbahn lift.
As a special service, the ski areas around Zell am See and Kaprun offer free Wi-Fi at various hotspots throughout the ski area. You can easily access the Wi-Fi network and surf the Internet, download the latest snow reports or post pictures!
From December 2019 the Schmittenhöhe will be connected to the ski circus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. The brand new zellamseeXpress now departs from Viehhofen in Glemmtal. Six cabins have a jukebox to which you can connect your music. There is also a ski bus between Viehhofen and Vorderglemm. By 2023, the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn and the ski area Zell am See-Kaprun are to merge completely. This will make the merger the largest contiguous ski area in Austria.
Numerous apres ski opportunities are available throughout the entire ski area after a day's skiing. A cosy start to apres ski can be found in the small lodges in the Schmittenhöhe ski area. You will find apres ski fun in "Parasol" in front of the alpine centre on the Kitzsteinhorn - you're guaranteed a good atmosphere under the canary yellow umbrella! Later you have the chance to let the day come to an end in restaurants and guest houses.
If you'd rather spend your free time outdoors, the various winter hiking trails allow you to explore the idyllic surroundings. Enjoy a walk along the Salzach or to Lake Zell. In neighbouring Bruck there is 3 km long toboggan run. And if you feel like relaxing after a long skiing day, we strongly recommend to pay a visit to the "Tauern Spa" in Kaprun.
Cross-country skiers of all ages and ability levels will be thrilled! Beginners, of whom have already tried out a couple of tracks, as well as experienced cross-country skiers, can fully live out a Nordic adventure in an idyllic natural landscape with clear air. 21 km of excellently prepared and partly floodlit cross-country tracks are available in Fusch and neighbouring Bruck. There is also a 5 km long circuit trail.
If this is still not enough, you can find further 200 km of trails in the skiing region, incl. the Saalbach and Pinzga trails.
