Bruck - cosy village between Großglockner and Zell am See!
Bruck is situated on Großglockner Str. between Zell Lake and the Großglockner Massif, on the edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park in the southern part of Salzburger Land. The ideal winter sports resort is distinguished by its proximity to the Zell am See/Kaprun ski area and its two ski centres. Bruck became well-known due to the Großglockner high alpine road, which starts here with kilometre "0". The cosy resort offers visitors various restaurants and lodges, as well as a diverse selection of leisure time activities. The scenery is forever dominated by snowy peaks of the Kitzsteinhorn (3,203 m) and the Großglockner (3,798 m).
SkiWith the ski pass "Ski Alpin Card" you can ski in the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Fieberbrunn as well as in the ski resorts of Zell am See/Kaprun on an amazing 408 km of pistes. All under the motto "1 ticket, 3 regions, endless mountains".
In Zell am See and Kaprun you have access to 138 kilometres of pistes and over 47 modern lifts in the two ski areas Maiskogel and Schmittenhöhe as well as the glacier ski area on the Kitzsteinhorn, which extends to over 3,203 m above sea level.
With its 41 km, the Kitzsteinhorn offers mostly medium-difficulty pistes for beginners and pleasure skiers. Wide carving pistes and long, sporty descents, such as the 5 km long piste from the mountain station of the Magnetköpfl lift, make the skier's heart beat faster. From Kaprun you can reach the glacier with the glacier jet and the panorama lift or from December 2019 with the K-onnection directly from the centre.
From Zell am See you can quickly reach the Schmittenhöhe ski area (2,000 m) with the CityXpress, the TrassXpress or the Schmittenhöhenbahn lift, which offers runs of all levels of difficulty. Experienced skiers can try their hand at the 4 km long route run, which is considered to be the most difficult in the entire ski area, or at the Black Mamba with a gradient of up to 63%.
The Maiskogel ski area, on the other hand, is particularly suitable for families, with a large number of wide and blue pistes. The Maiskogelköpfel lift is also the longest ski run in the region, at about 7 km.
Each of the three ski areas has its own fun park with tables, slides and jumps. Freeriders will also find plenty of opportunities. A total of 5 freeride routes and a comprehensive information system with infobases and info points are available. At the Schmittenhöhe, for example, you can let off steam on the open ski area under the Sonnkogelbahn lift.
As a special service, the ski areas around Zell am See and Kaprun offer free Wi-Fi at various hotspots throughout the ski area. You can easily access the Wi-Fi network and surf the Internet, download the latest snow reports or post pictures!
From December 2019 the Schmittenhöhe will be connected to the ski circus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. The brand new zellamseeXpress now departs from Viehhofen in Glemmtal. Six cabins have a jukebox to which you can connect your music. There is also a ski bus between Viehhofen and Vorderglemm. By 2023, the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn and the ski area Zell am See-Kaprun are to merge completely. This will make the merger the largest contiguous ski area in Austria.
Numerous après ski opportunities are available throughout the entire ski area after a day's skiing. A cosy start to après ski can be found in the small lodges in the Schmittenhöhe ski area. Later you can let your day come to an end in the restaurants and guest houses.
25 km of winter hiking paths allow you to explore the idyllic surroundings and run to Zell am See and Kaprun. At the Sportcenter Bruck, a natural ice rink is available where you can skate to your heart's content.
If you'd rather relax after skiing, you can rest and unwind in one of the numerous spa areas. If you're looking to experience typical Austrian après ski, don't miss out on a chance to visit nearby Zell am See (approx. 6 km).
Cross-country skiers of all possible ages and stamina conditions can rejoice! Not only experienced skiers but also beginners who have skied a few trails know that cross-country skiing in idyllic surroundings and the fresh air is a true experience. 21 km of superbly prepared and partly floodlit trails can be found in Bruck and neighbouring Fusch. If this is still not enough, you can find the 200 km long Pinzga trails along the Salzach valley.
