Au lies in the upper reaches of Bregenzer Ache at an altitude of 800 m and is one of the most important tourist areas in Austria. Several leisure activities are available to guests in this region. The various, small and large ski areas in Begenzerwald, the numerous cross-country tracks and winter hiking trails are very popular here. Further possibilities include sleigh-rides in the moonlight, ice-skating or a torch hike through the snowy winter landscape. In the ski area many Gasthäuser, with large sun terraces and snow bars, wait to be discovered. Even after your last descent of the day, the fun continues in the valley. For party-loving skiers and snowboarders the "Ski-Inn" pub is the place to be, with live bands performing on Saturdays. If you want to round off the evening more quietly, many restaurants are available and wait to spoil you with regional and international specialities. If you’d prefer a more sporty evening, you have the choice of a ride down a natural tobogganing run, ice-skating, horse-drawn or dog-sled rides or hikes.
