General information
Westerndorf, at an altitude of 800 m, 3400 inhabitants, has received the accolade 'the prettiest village in Europe'. Located at the centre of the Brixental valley, on a sunny plateau in the middle of the Kitzbüheler alps, Westerndorf offers an unspoilt natural backdrop in unison with a modern, tourist-orientated infrastructure.
How to get there
By car:
from direction Munic Inntal motorway A12 - exit Wörgl/Ost - B170 Brixentaler Straße - Hopfgarten - Westendorf. From direction Salzburg motorway A1 to extit Lofer - St. Johann - Kitzbühel - Westendorf.
By train:
Take a train to Westendorf station (1,5 km out of the village).
By airplane:
the nearest airports are in Innsbruck or Salzburg.
Westendorf in summer
Surrounded by gently rising wooded mountains, Westendorf is an ideal choice for walkers, offering 200 km of marked trails. The Alpenrose gondola brings you up to 2000 m and gives you access to gentle and more difficult walking paths. But also riding, tennis, paragliding, biking, mountain-biking, beach-volleyball, inline-skating or mini-golf can be done here. Several restaurant will offer traditional cuisine and in the night different pubs and discos are waiting for you. You can also visit the near Kitzbühel or Kufstein.
Westendorf in winter
Westendorf is an attractive winter resort, popular for skiers and non-skiers alike. The skiing area (800 - 2000 m) offers 40 km of well-prepared runs through gently wooded slopes. Besides the piste you will find 30 km of cross-country trails and many other activities including sleigh rides, toboggan runs, paragliding and an ice rink. The ski-world 'Wilder Kaiser - Brixental' is the greatest interconnected skiing-area of Austria. 250 km of best prepared pists, 7 cable-cars, 28 lifts and 55 t-lifts are a real eldorado for all skiers. After dark Aprés-Ski is lively and informal.
