About Werfen - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Werfen - Holiday idyll in the romantic mountain landscape!
The cosy resort Werfen is at an altitude of 540 m. With its cafés and rustic bars, the atmosphere is delightful. A visit to the fortress Hohenwerden, situated atop a 113 m high outcrop and providing splendid views of the surrounding mountain landscape is a must. Another highlight is the Giant Ice World Werfen - the largest ice cave in the world, and a unique natural display of ice and rock. Set apart from the hustle and bustle, you can leave all your troubles behind and fully relax. On a pleasant stroll or perhaps a horse-drawn sleigh ride, forget about the stress of every-day life and enjoy your winter holiday to the fullest. The ''Mozart City'' of Salzburg, just 40 km away, makes a great day-trip where you can stroll through the beautiful city.
SkiWith the lift pass ''Werfenweng,'' you will have access to 9 lifts and 25 km of pistes. The ski area is very family-friendly, located in a small tributary valley of the Salzach. Modern snow canons ensure sufficient skiing conditions. Kids can playfully learn the first steps on skis, and beginners can gain confidence on the right pistes. Snowboarders can live it up in the Jam Park, shaped daily and including obstacles like rails, boxes, and kickers for all levels of skill. Given the right snow conditions, free-riders will definitely get their money's worth on the Bischlinghöhe. Highlights include the varying valley descent as well as the toboggan run on the Strussingalm - both are about 6 km long!
In Werfen, you'll find cosy cafés, restaurants, and bars where you can let a great day of skiing come to a close. Directly in the ski area of Werfenweg, the après-ski possibilities don't fall short. Everyone will find a comfy spot in one of the quaint huts, on the sun terrace, or in the mountain restaurant. In the ''Liftstüberl'' parlour directly at the valley station, a great mood dominates the afternoon and makes a great transition to the evening activities. If you feel like taking a walk through the snow, the area is perfect for just that. A sleigh ride or snow-shoe hike can also be added to your evening itinerary.
In Werfen and the neighbouring Werfenweg awaits an excellently maintained network of trals, about 30 km in total to be discovered. There are both classic and skating trails. The panorama trail is particularly noteworthy, stretching out over 6 km up to the sun plateau of the Zistelberg mountain where you'll have unbeatable views. The Wengerau trail and the Eulersberg trail are both of middle-difficulty, between 6 and 9 km long. Cross-country courses are offered through the tourism association at the resort, meaning beginners, too, can take part in the fun. Cross-country skiing is not only a very healthy sport, but also a great way to clear your head.
