About Villach - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Especially known for its thermal springs, the spa is located 3 kilometres from the town of Villach, and 501 metres above the sea level. What's more, it lies by the river Drau and close to popular skiing areas and the Ossiacher and Faaker lakes. Getting there is easy; by car from Germany, Italy and Slovenia, by train as there is a direct connection, or by plane – Klagenfurt Airport is 40 kilometres away. The region of Villach offers you plenty of activities all-year-round.
Summer is perfect for sailing, golf, archery, and long excursions on foot or on bike, especially appreciated, as the climate of the region is almost Mediterranean and the area is a natural reserve. Of course, being in this renowned health and spa resort, you simply can not miss the opportunity of a bath in one of the six mineral springs. The treatment complex has an open air swimming pool with a sauna and other leisure facilities for young and old. These healing waters were recommended by a famous doctor Paracelsus, back in the 16th Century, particularly to the patients suffering from rheumatism, nervous diseases and circulatory disorders.
In winter you can choose between ice skating on frozen lakes or on several rinks, tobogganing, cross-country and alpine skiing. You can even go for a ride in a horse-drawn sleigh. The nearest mountain is Dobratsch and it offers 15 kilometres of ski slopes. There are also several areas of well-prepared pistes and lifts that are situated within a 15-minute drive from the town.
The town has around 57,000 inhabitants and they all wish to make your stay pleasant and enjoyable. The offer of eating out is wide and tempting with a variety of tastes and flavours. Moreover, as there are over 20 pubs and bars in Villach, you will surely find a nice place to spend an evening with your friends there. It's worth mentioning that all art lovers are invited to visit the Warmbad culture club where Carinthian artists present their works of a different kind.
