About Tux - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Tux - Zillertal special treat!
The community of Tux, with its five districts, forms the end of the Ziller Valley. Vorderlanersbach, Lanersbach, Juns, Madseit and Hintertux are characteristic Tyrolean villages at heights between 1,300 - 1,500 m, stretching over a length of 8 km. The village offers direct entry to the Rastkogel, Eggalm, and year-round Hintertux Glacier ski areas.
In addition to balanced apres ski, an array of sporty leisure activities are available. Relaxation seekers can enjoy the numerous spa offers available. A unique experience is a descent into the Spannagel Cave near the Hintertux Glacier; as one of the most important of Tyrol's caves, the length of its shaft is 10 km and can go to a depth of up to 25 m!
SkiWith the "Zillertaler Superskipass" you can choose from 530 kilometres of piste in the Zillertal Arena, by the Mayrhofen lifts, in the Ski and Gletscherwelt Zillertal 3000, in the ski area Hochzillertal – Hochfügen – Spieljoch, as well as the Wildkogel-Arena at Bramberg. The ski areas are all excellently linked to one another by a free train and bus shuttle (see ski region). Since a few years, the Zillertal Arena offers free-of-charge Wi-Fi in all of its ski areas! In other words, not only can you enjoy the white bliss and the sun, but also share your latest experiences and highlights directly with your loved ones at home.
The ski and glacier world Zillertal 3000 combines the ski areas around Ahorn, Penken, Rastkogel, Eggalm and the Hintertux Glacier. The entire area offers 196 piste kilometre, as well as 23 km of ski routes and 80 lifts between 630 - 3,250 m.
With the "Hintertuxer Gletscher" ski pass, you can ski along 60 km of piste. The Hintertux Glacier is even especially snow-sure in summer and offers varied runs. Whether you take on the long run from the Gefrorene Wand (frozen wall), test the buckle pistes at Olperer or prefer to enjoy the deep snow area at Kaserer, there is no lack of options! A further highlight is the "Gletscherrunde", where you can conquer 15,000 meters in altitude and 60 km of runs. Please note that for bookings for the low season (October - November) only the "Hintertuxer Gletscher" lift pass is included.
The pistes at Eggalm offer a beautiful view of the Tux Valley and the Penken and Horberg ski area is also reachable over the Rastkogel, whose lifts have recently started providing weather covers and seat warmers. In addition to the legendary Harakiri piste, you will also find the first-rate "Penken Funpark".
Without direct connection to Tux, only reachable over Mayrhofen, a small but fine beginner's area with Austria's largest pendulum cableway awaits you at the Ahorn.
The ski area Tux/Hintertux Glacier was voted the best ski area 2014 in the category "Guaranteed Snow". The glacier ski area offers winter sports fun on 365 days a year.
The 10 person lift Finkenberg I, has been in service since the 2017/18 winter season. It has replaced the 4 person cabin lift at the valley station in Finkenberg, and since December it has been transporting 2,400 people per hour in its 56 cabins from the valley to the mountain. Factors such as shorter transportation times, heated seats and Wi-Fi help give passengers a comfortable experience.
Tux offers great apres ski. The "Hohenhaus-Tenne" at the Tux Glacier valley station is open early for the first round of drinks. Afterwards, numerous discos and bars invite you in to party into the early morning hours. Schlager stars regularly appear in "Tux 1". Additionally, the Tux night buses offer safe transportation to the accommodations!
A highlight is a tobogganing party on one of the three tobogganing runs - of course with a ski lodge evening afterwards! During the day you can take part in, e.g. winter hikes, ice climbing or hang-gliding. In the sports centre you can play skittles, tennis, squash and billiards. Ice skating and curling are possible on the natural ice rink, which is also lit in the evening!
The Zillertal isn't just known for its runs: cross-country skiers also get their money's worth here! With a total of 125 km of track, the Zillertal is a paradise for cross-country skiing fans.
In Tux you can easily enter the 14 km long track from Vorderlanersbach to Madseit, which is skiable when other areas start to thaw, due to its altitude of 1,300 - 1,450 m. A further 30 km of track are available at Mayrhofen, including the 10 km long stretch to Hollenzen. Additionally, you have access to the valley track there, which runs to Hippach and finally to Zell.
