Tschagguns – Idyllic mountain village in Rätikon!
The municipality of Tschagguns is located in the the picturesque Gauer Valley in Vorarlberg. The village centre is situated at an altitude of 685 m above sea level, but the the municipality comprises several hamlets up to an altitude of 1,200 m. Approx. 2,500 people live in the mountain village in the magnificent scenery of the Rätikon mountains. The end of the valley with the "three towers" of the Drusenfluh group is considered one of the most beautiful of the eastern Alps.
Tschagguns is situated in the heart of Montafon between the two towns Schruns and Golm at the foot of the Tschaggunser Mittagsspitze (2,168 m). The lifts for the ski areas Golm and Silvretta Montafon are only a couple of kilometres away. Several hotels and guest houses will provide you with a cosy place to stay. The local landmark - the Marien-Wallfahrtskirche built in the 15th century - is located on hill. You can take a stroll in the neighbouring main town of the Montafon area Schruns to enjoy the historical old town. Many big events are organised here, such as the World Cup Montafon with international live acts. Tschagguns also has a train station, where you can take a train to Schruns.
SkiWith the lift pass "Montafon Brandertal" you can enjoy skiing in seven ski areas in Montafon, Brandnertal and Walgau. The ski areas offer a total of 297 km of pistes (incl. 62 ski routes), which are connected by 79 lifts. This makes Montafon one of the biggest ski areas in Vorarlberg. One of the highlights is the Hochjoch-Totale in the ski area Silvretta Montafon: the longest valley run of Vorarlberg.
The local ski area of Tschagguns is Golm, which can be reached by ski bus within just a couple of minutes. You can look forward to 26.5 km of pistes with 9 lifts at the Golmer Joch suited for winter sport enthusiasts of every age and skill level. The ski area features a pleasant mix of blue and red pistes, all of which can be covered with artificial snow. Additionally, there are approx. 17.5 km of ski routes, which justify Montafon's reputation of being a freeride hotspot.
Especially families with children are welcome in the ski area Golm. In the Golmi-Land at the mountain station of the Grüneck (1,890 m) children will enjoy the child-friendly fun slope while their parents can savour the view from the Berghof Golf and the Panorama-Restaurant nearby. In the "Golmi-Wald" the mascot Golmi leads the way and the "Hexenwald" at the blue piste #4 is part of the family run and also popular with the little ones.
Advanced riders can enjoy the World Cup run or take an endurance challenge on the longest piste of the ski area: the 9.2 km long valley run leads from the highest point of the ski area all the way down to Vandans and spans 1460 metres of altitude. From there you can get back to the valley station in Latschau with the Golmer lift. Another piste highlight for skiers with strong nerves is the deep black run "Diabolo" - it is one of the steepest pistes in Austria with a downhill gradient of 70%.
Apart from the many piste highlights the ski area offers a family-friendly infrastructure with eight mountain restaurants for a break, skiing lessons and free of charge childcare from 3 to 6 years, as well as the children's ski safari.
