About Thaur - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Thaur - winter fun near the big city!
At an altitude of 633 m is the idyllic resort surrounded by a unique mountain landscape at the foot of the Nordkette. Thaur is located only 10 km from Innsbruck. The idyllic resort, where tradition is upheld, is not only home to Thaur nativity carvers, but is also known as Tyrol's ''largest vegetable garden.'' Through its cultural programme in particular, the cosy village sets itself apart from the usual winter sports resorts. Still remaining from the trademark of the resort, the castle of Thaur, are only ruins. At the nearby Glugezer, you will find a beautiful ski area with mostly middle-difficult slopes. After a strenuous day on the piste, various restaurants and coffee houses invite you in to relax and unwind.
SkiThe "Glungezer" ski pass offers alpine skiing pleasure at an altitude of approx. 950 to 2,304 m with a total of 23 km of well-prepared runs. From the summit, the panoramic ski area offers a breathtaking view of the beautiful Inntal valley and the peaks of the Nordkette chain. The entrance to the ski area is in Tulfes. The winter season 18/19 also offers a new 10-seater gondola lift "Glungezerbahn I", which replaces the 2-seater chair lift and guarantees comfortable access to the ski area. The pistes meander through a wonderful natural landscape, connoisseurs will especially love the forest descents and can take a break in the rustic and cosy mountain huts. Families with small children will really feel at home on the small but fine ski mountain Glungezer, which invites you to relaxed skiing with enough flat slopes.
Conditioned skiers can try their hand at the Schartenkogel valley run Tulfes, which is one of the longest runs in Tyrol at 15 km. Experts have the opportunity to try the 9 km long FIS downhill run with a difference in altitude of 1,500 m and freestyle fans can let off steam in the fun parks on the Schartenkogel.
Après ski is more relaxed in Thaur. The tranquil restaurants and cafes invite you to cosily end your day. Culture enthusiasts in particular will enjoy Thaur and should plan a visit to its castle ruins, the town's landmark.
Those looking for more variety are guaranteed to find it in nearby Innsbruck, with its many shops, boutiques, cafes and museums. Night owls will get their money's worth here. Whoever is attracted more to the winter sports enjoyment can use his winter menu through the hiking path, the ice sports stadium and the many tobogganing runs..
A highlight for adrenaline seekers is the ride in the guest bob through the Olympic bob run. Those you would like to enjoy traditional winter sports should not miss the "Klumperspaß". You race down the piste with a type of solid-hoofed toboggan, called "The Klumper". Dare the descent!
