Telfs is a spot for those who love active holidays, not only due to the great mountains that surround the municipality, but also thanks to the numerous leisure time facilities the village has got to offer, including indoor and outdoor pools, the sports centre with climbing wall, the sports field Emat, the tennis facility Birkenberg as well as the golf course Wildmoos located in the homonymous village. This great 18-hole golf course is perfectly embedded in the nature reserve Wildmoos and offers breathtaking views on the surrounding mountains. Ancient larches, spruces and birch trees flank the course.
However, also those who love culture are going to feel at ease in this small town. Worth seeing are above all the three churches of Telfs: the Saint Peter and Paul church, boasting a double steeple, was constructed in neo-Romanesque style in the year 1863. The Franciscan convent and the respective church, however, were built in the 18th century, while the Holy Spirit church was consecrated in 2002. Its main characteristic is a picture cycle on the Holy Spirit by Maurizio Bonato. Would you like to know more about the history of Telfs? If true, we recommend you to visit the Carnival and Local museum, hosted in the so-called “Noaflhaus”. There are also several events taking place: since 1981, every year there are the “Tiroler Volksschauspiele”, which include theatre performances of famous authors such as Felix Mitterer. By the way, Telfs also boasts a particular Carnival custom called “Schleicherlaufen”, taking place every 5 years (the next time in 2015). It is believed that it has already existed in 1571, since the second half of the 19th century it used to be performed in the way it is today.
