General information
St. Wolfgang superbly positioned by lake 'Wolfgang See' in a unique mountainous valley, has something to offer for everyone: tradition and culture, recreation and relaxation as well as an amazing variety of sports facilities.
The village, located at a sea level of 540 m with 2.762 inhabitants. is well known for its pretty 15th century church and its romantic streets with shops, cafés and restaurants. Don't miss to visit the legendary White Horse Inn.
Nightlife is varied in St. Wolfgang. Enjoy the peaceful moments as the sun sets behind the mountains and the exciting nightlife around the Wolfgangsee lake.
How to get there
By car:
Via Salzburg: take ferderal road B1 and B158 to Strobl - St. Wolfgang (about 50 km)
Via Vienna: - motorway A 1 - Linz - exit Regau - federal road B 145 and B 158 to St. Wolfgang (about 300 km)
By train:
Train station Salzburg or Bad Ischl, then by local bus to St. Wolfgang
By airplane:
Salzburg airport (50 km) - international connecting flights
Munich airport (180 km) - International Airport
Summer resort
With its delightful lakeside setting and rich artistic heritage, St. Wolfgang is one of Austria's most enchanting resorts. It offers 130 km of marked paths with walks of varying difficulty and length and you will be surprised about the number of mountain bike and cycling tracks: from family-friendly tracks around lake 'Wolfgang See' to difficult routes for advanced cyclists.
Lake steamers carry you across to nearby resorts, while the nostalgic rack-and-pinion railway takes you three miles up to the peak of the Schafberg. Rafters can discover the exciting side of nature on wild mountain streams, gorges and ravines around the Wolfgangsee region.
Apart from all kind of water sports activities climbing, tennis, in- and outdoor swimming pools, horseback riding and more is offered.
Winter resort
For skiing St. Wolfgang offers the 'Postalm' skiing area (1200 - 1900 m) with 20 km of well prepared pistes and 9 uphill facilities or the nearby 'Zwölferhorn' skiing area (550 - 1522 m) with 11 km of groomed slopes for all levels of ability and 1 cable car, 1 chair lift and 1 T-bar lift to fascilitate the ascent.
The more adventurous can take the 50 minute bus ride to the skiing area of 'Dachstein West' (750 - 2000 m) with 65 km of excellent runs and 30 uphill fascilities. Cross-country enthusiasts will enjoy the 40 km of tracks. For non-skiers there is a wide selection of other activities available.
The apres ski is varied and informal in St. Wolfgang with cosy bars and friendly cafes.
