Sillian - skiing fun with a wonderful view of the Dolomites!
The district Sillian is located at 1,103 m altitude between the world-famous South Tyrol and Lienzer Dolomites and is the main resort of the Alta Pusteria. The ski region is known to be the sun and snow paradise of Eastern Tyrol. Three family-friendly ski areas can be explored in this impressive area, which is also well-known for it's spectacular views: The 2 ski areas which are also suitable for beginners, Obertilliach and Kartisch, as well as the largest ski centre of the region, the Thurntaler at Sillian, offer altogether 55 km of well-prepared pistes of all difficulties. Therefore this area is well suited for families and tranquillity seekers and also cross-country skiers will find what they are looking for with a network of approx. 120 km of trails in close proximity.
SkiWith the lift pass "Ski Hit" you have access to 186 km of pistes of all difficulties, including ski routes. Sillian itself offers 22 km of piste.
The Thurntaler at Sillian is a modern family-orientated ski area, which offers perfect snow conditions at 1,103 - 2,407 m altitude and the largest snow making facilities in Eastern Tyrol. Special highlights are the 11 km long Kamm run to Sillian as well as the descent to the valley station of the 4er chair lift "Außervillgraten".
The Yellowsnow park with various kinds of obstacles lets all freestyler's hearst beat faster. Kids will have loads of fun in the Alta Pusteria children's club "Bobo".
At the apres ski umbrella bar, located directly at the valley station in Sillian, you can let the successful skiing day come to a cosy end. Party animals can shake a leg in the "Dancing Rancho". Winter lovers however can enjoy an alternative sporty entertainment programme with snowshow hikes through the wintery landscape, romantic torch and toboggan evenings, ski tours or curling. Or why not go on an romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride in the moonlight?
In total cross-country skiers will find 120 km of prepared trails in the surrounding area, whereby the track "Internationale" between Cortina and Lienz passes directly through Sillian. In Sillian there are also 48 km of cross country trails - both in skating style and in classic style. Those who have ever been on the trails in Alta Pusteria - especially in the Tyrolean Gail valley between Kartitsch and Untertillach - will most likely not want to go cross-country skiing anywhere else. Good snow conditions, due to a snow-making machine, are guaranteed.
The new cross-country and biathlon centre in Obertilliach, with it's trails and shooting ground, is not only popular with experts. Guests are also welcome to try themselves in racing and shooting, after having been taught the basics. The Obertilliach cross-country trail network in Ramsau is labelled with a quality seal.
