About Schlitters - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Schlitters – Winter sports fun at your doorstep!
Right at the entrance of Zillertal, at an altitude of 548 m, lies Schlitters. The history-rich village is one of the oldest in Zillertal and is not just a visually romantic picturebook holiday destination. The family-friendly holiday village counts, with its 1,500 residents, as one of the smaller villages in the valley, but thanks to its Apline surroundings, has a latge variety of leisure activities to offer. Trudging with snowshoes through the landscape, tobogganing, cross-country skiing, or in a café on the Schlitterer See and enjoying the beaming winter sun - all is part of the programme here. Neighbouring areas by Schlitters include the ski centre Fügen, where you can directly access the ski area Hochzillertal-Hochfügen. The free ski bus, as well as the Zillertal train, connects the valley destinations and ski centres seamlessly. Worth recommending is a day trip to the adventure-thermal bath Zillertal - a paradise for water lovers. For night owls, Fügen and Kaltenbach are also worth checking out.
SkiWith the "Zillertaler Superskipass," you have the choice between 489 km of piste in Hochfügen, am Spieljoch, in Hochzillertal, in the Zillertal Arena (Zell, Gerlos, Königsleiten, Wald, Krimml u. Gerlosstein), am Penken, am Ahorn, am Horberg und in the Ski- and Glacierworld Zillertal 3000 (Mayrhofen, Finkenberg, Eggalm, Rastkogl, Hintertuxer Gletscher). The ski areas are ideally connected with each other through a free bus and lift system. Since the 13/14 winter season, the Zillertal Arena offers free wifi connections in its ski areas! This way, you can directly share your experiences and highlights with your loved ones at home (see ski region).
From Schlitters, navigate your way in just a few minutes to Fügen, where you can directly enter the "Ski-optimal Hochzillertal-Hochfügen" ski area. Through the connection there between Hochfügen and Hochzillertal, you gain access to approx. 77 km of diverse pistes. The valley station of Ski-Dorados Hochfügen is situated at an altitude of 1,500 m, and is easily reached with the ski bus from Fügen. The Hochtal guarantees winter sports fans snow security until the end of April and is designed for all those who are looking for a ski area with limitless possibilities. The new lifts expose a gorgeous terrain up to an altitude of 2,500 m.
A special highlight is the nighttime ski run on the floodlight pistes in Kaltenbach, which can be experienced once per week. Freestylers can also find the popular Betterpark in the ski area as well.
The apres ski mecca Hochzillertal has just about everything to offer when it comes to ending your day of skiing successfully! Rustic, cosy ski huts and mountain pastures border the pistes and tempt you with lounge chairs and open fires. Especially exclusive are the Kristallhütte and the Wedelhütte. Afterwards, the Postalm and Seetal's umbrella bar, directly at the valley station of Hochzillertal, invite you to enjoy some Jagertee and warm, mulled wine.
Whoever has had enough of skiing and apres ski hustle-and-bustle can find a relaxing alternative programme in and around Schlitters. Several hiking trails run from the resort to the picturesque mountain world, such as the 2 hour long tour to the Spitzerköpfl (809 m), or the panoramic hiking trail to the Reither Kogel (1,336 m). However, to reach this 2.5 hour long trail, you will need to navigate your way up with the Reither cable car. A less sport-intensive alternative, one which helps you get to know the area a little better, is a ride with the nostalgic Zillertal train. Zillertal is not hard-pressed to offer romance and a stress-free experience. For water lovers, a trip to the adventure-thermal bath of Zillertal near Fügen is worth the visit. From spectacular water slides to spas with sauna landscapes, every family member will find something in the extensive thermal paradise. For the night owls, the neighbouring towns of Strass and Fügen have a large selection of cosy taverns, bars, and pubs.
The wide, sunny valley floor of Zillertal is the ideal terrain for cross-country skiiers and comprises of a network of approx. 200 km length. Alone in the holiday region of Fügen-Kaltenbach, between the areas of Bruck, Fügen, Kaltenbach, Strass, Stumm, Ried, and Uderns, await a total of 65 km of cross-country tracks for you to explore. In Schlitters, a 6.4 km track begins not far from the Seecafé on the Schlitterer See, of which can be skated along the entire length. The track runs over the Wiesengrund up to Strass and is easy to navigate, making it therefore manageable for every skill level. The easily reachable tracks in Fügen are equally worth recommending. The 1 km long high-altitude track in Kaltenbach, at a height of 1,800 m, offers an impressive view of the wintery landscape of Hochzillertal.
