Sautens - gateway to the Ötztal!
Surrounded by the Stubai and Ötztal Alps, Sautens is located at 812 m altitude at the entrance to the ötz Valley. The quaint resort impresses its visitors with the wonderful location, which offers tranquility and relaxation and a welcome change to the hectic winter sports arenas. Also the close by Piburg lake is worth a visit. Even though the idyll is predominant, skiing fans will nevertheless find what they are looking for in Sautens. The manageable and family-friendly ski area "Hochoetz" is located in close proximity to the neighbouring resort Oetz. The younger generation will enjoy a visit to the Ski World Cup resort Sölden, which especially offers fun away from the piste.
SkiWith the "Ski region Hochoetz - Kühtai" ski pass you gain access to the Hochoetz and Kühtai ski areas, with a total of 80 km of piste and a floodlight piste, opening twice per week. In close proximity to Sautens in Ötztal, the ski area Hochoetz stretches over 1,410 - 2,272 m and includes a total of 39 km of piste. Oetz can be reached quickly and comfortably with the free-of-charge ski bus. With the modern Acherkogel lift you can reach the mountain station at 2,200 m altitude within only 8 minutes.
Freshly prepared pistes weave through lovely winter forests and ensure unforgettable holiday memories. With mainly blue and red runs on offer as well as 27 lifts, the Hochoetz-Kühtai ski area presents itself well-manageable and therefore especially family-friendly. Wonderful valley runs open up from the Hochoetz middle station (the longest being 5 km) or from the Brunnerkopf right down to the Ochsengarten, located in a side valley. Due to modern snow-making systems at the Brunnerkopf, snow and fun are guaranteed to be had.
The little winter sports fans can let off steam in the Kinderland in Hochoetz. During the "Happy Family Weeks" (15.12. - 22.12.2018 and 12.01. - 26.01.2019, 16.03. - 06.04.2019), all children born in and after 2013 (must have valid ID, children must also be toilet trained!) whose stay is from 7 days will receive a free 5-day long ski course or 5-days of child care services in the Hochoetz ski kindergarten. The ski area Oetz/Hochoetz was awarded as the best ski area for families ans children in 2014. The portal underlines the area's child friendliness, the many childcare services for children from 2 years in kindergartens and the 3 children's parks, as well as the "Happy Family Weeks".
If this is not enough, you will also find an extended offer of pistes with the "Ötztaler Superskipass": enjoy a seemingly endless 356 km of best-prepared pistes and 90 modern lifts.
Due to its idyllic location, Sautens rather offers a quieter and more relaxed apres ski atmosphere. In one of the quaint guest houses you can end the day cosily. Nature lovers will appreciate the lovely surroundings during a walk. Party animals and all those who prefer apres ski a bit more lively, can visit the nearest resorts Längenfeld and Sölden. Here you will find apres ski pubs, discos and numerous other possibilities to end the skiing day with a good party.
Nature lovers will surely enjoy the lovely surroundings and they can venture out to explore them on a walk or a hike. Romantic torch-lit snowshoe hikes in the evening might also be an option.
A highlight for the whole family is a go on the 1.5 km long, illuminated toboggan run. Or maybe try yourself in curling. Daring winter sports fans can also participate in an ice climbing tour. There are a number of organisers locally, who offer these tours.
Or do you rather want to wind down? Then better take a trip to Längenfeld (approx. 20km) in the Aqua Dome, where can fully regenerate in the thermal pools.
The area around Sautens (near Oetz) offers a variety of round courses with a total of 10 km length. Especially families and beginners will feel comfortable with the selection. Additionally the other cross-country areas can be reached stress-free with the shuttle bus.
Fans of the Nordic discipline will be thrilled by the cross-country centre in Längenfeld with a total of 50 km of trails. A very special experience is the night round course on the high-altitude track at Hochgurgl - with flood-lights!
