Neukirchen am Großvenediger - excellent holiday experience!
In the foreground of the enchanting scenery of the Hohen Tauern, at the foot of the Wildkogel (2, 225 m) is Neukirchen, the fourth-largest resort in Pinzgau at 856 m. Covered by the national park Hohe Tauern, Neukirchen does not only offer a breathtaking landscape with the best alpine air, but also many leisure activities. Next to the wide range of trails the diverse and family friendly ski area at the Wildkogel seduces cross-country skiers. A yearly highlight is the international "Wildkogel Longtrail" in January, at which approx. 60 dog sleighs at the highest positioned dog sleigh race in Austria get at the start. Out skirts of the alpine winter sports, there are other activities that can seduce you, e.g. winter hiking, tobogganing and ice skating. Romantic horse- drawn sleigh rides are also a good way to enjoy the beautiful snow-covered winter landscape. In Neukirchen you can enjoy a wonderful winter holiday!
SkiThe "Skiarena Wildkogel" between the Kitzbühel Alps and the Tauernkamm offers skiers and snowboarders excellent conditions on 55 kilometres of piste.
The ski area offers 15 modern and comfortable lifts that take you up to an altitude of 2,150 m - from comfortable 6 person lifts to tow lifts. Once there, you can enjoy the majestic panorama of the Hohe Tauern National Park from the look-out point, with a grand panorama of the National Park Hohe Tauern and views of the several 3,000-m mountains and the "highest Salzburger", the Großvenediger (3,674 m). The ski area is particularly popular for families with children. The snow-sure ski area offers runs for all skill levels, ensuring fun on the piste for all. The extremely wide and open pistes offer tons of space for carving and boarding. The little ones can spend the day at "Kogel-Mogel Kinderland".
A highlight in the ski area is the long valley run from the slopes on Wildkogel, through the forest runs, directly into the centre of the resort. Freestylers will get their money's worth in the newly established fun park at the Tellerlift in "Wolkenstein".
Find enough sporty fun away from the pistes in Neukirchen. Take part in an extensive winter hike, a ride on the horse sleigh or make an adventurous riding excursion through the romantic winter landscape. You can also let off steam by ice skating or ice curling. Brave tourists can enjoy the breathtaking view of the landscape of the region from a bird's eye view, while paragliding.
Especially interesting is the longest lit up toboggan run in the world at Wildkogel. The start is quite comfortably reached with the Wildkogel lift, and at the end it curves through many serpentine stretches down to Bramberg, covering 14 km of tobogganing fun and a difference in altitude of 1,300 m.
For après ski, try one of the pavillion bars in the resort. If you hear the dance floor calling your name later on, head to the "Pinzgauer Kanne", "Nightlife" or the "Almbar".
The "Wildkogel-Arena" offers about 45 km of trails, most of which are of low difficulty. You can test out the 3 km flood-light trail "Wennserloipe" in the resort Bramberg, or try your hand at the loop "Finkenhof" at about 1,000 m. The Oberpinzgau is a real paradise for cross-country skiers. The "Hochkrimml-Duxerloipe" offers you a breathtaking view on the region at an altitude up to 1,660 m.
A delightful tip for cross-country skiers is the Pinzga trail, which leads through the whole valley on 200 km. Enjoy the marvellous views of the fascinating mountain world around the Großvenediger--it's worth it!
