About Konigsleiten - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Königsleiten - heavenly winter pleasure!
The romantically situated mountain village of Königsleiten is not a part of Tirol, as Gerlos and Zell are, but rather a part of Salzburger Land. At 1,600 m, Königsleiten is the highest village in the Ziller Valley Arena, and provides especially quick entrance to the ski area. Fun pistes, après ski and cosy mountain lodges make this village especially appealing. Those simply seeking a bit of relaxation will not feel left out. Because whether partying in one of the bars or indulging in the culinary pleasures of the many restaurants, or relaxing in the spa’s indoor pool, the available leisure activities are diverse and fun with something for everyone!
SkiWith the "Zillertaler Superskipass", you have access to 530 kilometres of piste in Hochfügen, at the Spieljoch, in Hochzillertal, in the Zillertal Arena (Zell, Gerlos, Königsleiten, Wald, Krimml amd Gerlosstein), at the Penken, and Ahorn, at the Horberg, in the "Ski and Gletscherwelt Zillertal 3000" (Finkenberg, Eggalm, Rastkogl, Hintertux Glacier) and at the Wildkogel-Arena at Bramberg. The ski areas are all inter-connected by a free bus and train. For a few years now, the Zillertal Arena offers free Wi-Fi in all ski areas! Like this you can share your newest experiences and highlights with your friends at home (see ski region).
Königsleiten offers guests a direct entry point to the Zillertal Arena, which is connected to Zell am Ziller, where you will gain access to 143 kilometres of the best prepared pistes. Here, in the most extensive ski area of the Ziller Valley, there are 58 lifts which can take you easily and comfortably up to 2,500 m. From there you will have a diverse choice of runs like the black slope "Abfahrt Nr. 36" in Krummbach Valley. The longest valley run is 10.4 km and leads skiers from "Stoanmandl" over "Ebenfeld" to the valley station "Isskogl".
A real highlight of the region is the "Hot Zone Snowpark" in Gerlos. The newly designed park leaves no wish unfulfilled on it's 30,000 m² expanse. Mega half-pipe (100 m long), easy line for beginners, pro line for pros and kicker line for the very courageous await you there, as well as a great sound system, web cams and the new chill area. The Zillertal Arena offers many other highlights, including 3 different "SkiMovie" tracks. The performances are firstly filmed and later they are free to download via the website. Children's pistes and a kid's ski school and kindergarten with special child entertainment programme keep the little ones busy.
Together with the Isskogel lift the new Dorfbahn lift in Gerlos with take you to the heart of Zillertal arena. The 10 person cabin was opened in 2016/17 and comprises a large valley station with sports shop, ski hire and ski depot as well as more than 200 new parking spaces. The 2018/2019 season also offers a new 6-person high-speed chair lift, the "Larmach", in Königsleiten with heated seats and weather protection hood.
A further recommendation we would like to make is to visit the Hintertux Glacier, which is one of the most popular in the Alps due to its size and challenging pistes.
For those of you who are looking for après ski, you're definitely right at home in the Zillertal Arena, what with its numerous huts and après ski bars, all of which invite you in any time of day to start off, keep up, or finish off your day just right. Start off traditionally in the rustic "Sportkeller", where plenty of socialising is to be had along with just as much fun. At "Hannes' Alm" and in the "K1 Disco Club", both of which can be found at the valley station of the Sonnwend lift, you'll experience unforgettable après ski and find yourself quickly partying the night away. A quieter, cosier side of après ski can be found at the "Schatzi Alm Bar" or in the "Musik Cafe Castello".
The toboggan run in Königsleiten offers you more than 950 m of track an exciting time for both little and big winter sports fans. You also have the chance to view and take in Königsleiten and its gorgeous surroundings via horse-drawn sledge or on the horses themselves.
Those looking for a more sporting adventure will find ice climbing available to try at the Untersulzbach waterfall. Furthermore, the national park is world renowned for its ski tour-goers and freeriders. A highly recommended excursion can be taken to the Krimml waterfalls, of which with their 380 m height are the highest waterfalls in Europe. The approx. 13 km distant Krimml should certainly be scheduled into your holiday in order to view these famous, unique natural wonders embedded among gorgeous, wintry surroundings.
The Zillertal Arena stands for snow-sure and and perfectly prepared cross-country trails. Have a look for yourself, e.g. on the approx. 12 km long track around Gerlos. The access point to the trail "Schönachtal - Stinkmoosalm" is directly in resort, and with its 7 km it is the longest in the Arena. The trails are mainly easy to intermediate difficulty. The probably nicest track in the Zillertal Arena is the high altitude track on the Gerlosplatte in the national park Hohe Tauern. At 1,640 m altitude and on a total length of 8 km you can enjoy the idyllic view.
In nearby Zell am Ziller you can find further approx. 16 km of trails available. These are ideal for beginners due to their easy level of difficulty. And once you have gotten then hang of it you can access the Mayrhofen trail network from Zell am Ziller with additional 33 km. Further highlights of the region are the new illuminated track "Bäckenfeld" and the new high altitude trail at the mountain station of Königsleiten.
