One special attraction of this village is the frozen Obstans waterfall, on which a fascinating ice-climbing venture can be partaken in.
SkiWith the lift pass "SkiHit you have access to 186 km of piste, catering to all levels of skill incl. ski routes, all available to explore in the 8 Eastern Tyrol ski areas of Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei, Brunnalm, Lienzer Dolomiten, Sillian, Obertiliach und Kartitsch in the Alta Pusteria as well as in Carinthia the areas of the Mölltal Glacier and the Ankogel. Kartitsch offers a total of 4 km of piste.
The three family-friendly ski areas around Sillian, Kartitsch and Obertilliach not only offer an awesome panorama view onto the Dolomites, but also a lot of skiing pleasure with 38 kilometres of piste and 15 lifts. The Thurntaler ski area is the most well-known of the region. From the 2,407 m peak, there is an 11 km long valley run, right down to Sillian. For snowboarders there is the "Yellowsnow Park", and a children's world for the little ones. Easier pistes can be found on the flat, sunny slopes at the Golzentipp, the local mountain of Obertillach and in Kartitsch.
Those who want to round off their day in a cosy environment will love the Alta Pusteria. A typical end to a day's skiing in the dreamy alpine villages is characterised by sitting together comfortably in the small bars or cafes. Anyone who wants it more lively, can actively experience the real Tyrolean apres ski at the Fun-Après-Ski bar at the valley station of the gondolas and try one of the numerous flirt drinks. Action is called for after skiing too, no matter whether it is curling, ice skating or tobogganing. There are 11 winding toboggan runs, which lead steeply through the winter world, they can be used either by day or night, in the glistening sun or in romantic moonlight. After sporting exertion, pure relaxation is offered by the indoor pool in Sillian with a sauna and solarium.
When cross-country skiers rave about the best trails in the alpine area, this frequently means those in the Alta Pusteria. Approx. 140 km of skating and double-track trails of varying levels of difficulty, 65 km of which can be found in the trail network of Obertilliach and Kartitsch alone, offer optimal terrain for beginners, advanced and pros alike. A run on the "International" trail through East Tyrol, South Tyrol and Venice is an absolute must for all ambitioned cross-country skiers. Also recommended is a tour on the 2.5 km long high-altitude run "Anras", from the Lana lift northwards into the Kristeinertal, which is known to be one of the sunniest trails in East Tyrol. Anyone who would like to watch the Nordic national teams during their biathlon training or even actively try out this sport has the best opportunity to do so in the well-known cross-country and biathlon centre in Obertilliach.
