About Heiterwang - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Heiterwang - a real skiing paradise!
The typical Tyrolean village of Heiterwang is located at almost 1000 m high in a wide valley at the entrance to the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena. Surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery and dotted with sun-convenient lodges round the lovely Heiterwanger See Lake, the resort makes a perfect base for THE ultimate winter holiday! The ski area is close proximity and offers runs of all difficulty levels. Heiterwang also provides great off-piste enjoyment, with its marked winter hiking trails, a prepared toboggan run and a natural ice skating rink with curling area.
SkiDespite its tranquillity and quiet location, Heiterwang offers good connections to the surrounding ski areas. With the “Top Snow Card” you have access to 10 ski areas with a total of 214 km of piste and 87 lifts, including Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the German side, and Lermoos, Berwang, Ehrwald and Mittenwald in Austria. However you can also access lifts in Heiterwang itself. With its two ski runs, the 2 km long chairlift “Heiterwanger Karlift” is a popular training lift and is used by different clubs as well as for ski races.
Berwang, the highest resort in the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena, offers 36 km of pistes and 15 lifts with the connected ski area Berwangertal. The sunny and snow-sure location on the Alpine crossing between Zugspitze and Lechtal is overwhelming. The "Sonnenalm" lift is well-loved for its sunny pistes that allow for broad carving turns which are not too difficult to take. Snowboarders and freeskiers can experiment in the funpark at the "Thanellerkar" lift.
The only night skiing slope in the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena can be found at the Egghof Sun Jet. The valley stations of Sonnalm lift, the Egghof Sun jet and the Bilig lift offer free Wi-Fi hotspots so that you can stay connected with your friends at home.
Après ski in Heiterwang and the surrounding areas is considerably quieter and cosier than in other regions. Here the sunny-located huts and après-ski bars with a fantastic view of the mountain lakes make a perfect place to stop off for a cheery get-together. A popular venue is the “Karliftstüberl” at the Heiterwanger Karlift ensures your creature-comforts and is great for toasting a successful day on the piste in good company!
1 x per week night owls can have fun on the toboggan run in Berwang. The slope at Egghof Sun Jet is also floodlit for night skiing. During day time, the 2.4 km toboggan run in Leermoos is a little more interesting.
But this isn't all when it comes to leisure time activities. You can go ice skating or try out curling on the natural ice rink in Berwang. The 45 km long winter hiking trails invite you to explore the surrounding area.
Heiterwang offers a network of cross-country tracks with a total length of more than 110km, which are linked with all resorts in the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena. The area is popular for cross-country skiing as there are many skating and classic courses which can be used through until spring if snow conditions allow. In 2006, Heiterwang was therefore made the venue of the Austrian cross-country championships.
Berwang offers excellent cross-country opportunities guaranteeing fun against the magnificent backdrop of the Zugspitze. A network of 20 km of trails around the resort awaits you here! The intermediate Moosloipe-run is a great challenge that offers an impressive wintry panorama on a length of 4 km. Both Bichlbach and Heiterwang also have a flood-lit track.
