Döllach - holiday fun for young & old!
Nestled in one of the largest nature reserves in Central Europe, the Hohe Tauern National Park, lies the idyllic town of Döllach (1,024 m), which belongs to the community of Großkirchheim. The resort's landmark is the homonymous castle with integrated museum. The ski area of Heiligenblut is only approx. 10 km away. Skiers and snowboarders are sure to get their money's worth here. Anyone looking for off-piste variety has various recreational activities in Döllach to choose from. From a skating rink to tobogganing runs, right through to walkways and hiking trails; there's something for everyone. Snowy forests, cleared winter hiking paths and cross-country trails invite you to partake in romantic strolls or tour along the mountain rivers. The conviviality in Döllach is especially loved, and you can spoil yourself with culinary treats.
SkiWith the lift pass "Großglockner" you will find 55 km of snow-sure and mainly free pistes, as well as 12 lift systems between the altitudes of 1,301 and 2,989 m available to use. Here, at the foot of the highest mountain in Austria (3,798 m) with a spectacular backdrop, skiers, boarders and carvers will find mainly intermediate pistes while experts and freeriders will also get their money's worth.
For practising the first swings in the snow, the wide slopes at the Sonn- and Fleissalm are ideal to use. The steepest piste from the Schareck peak to Fallbichl is something of a challenge, just as the ski route from Schareck to the Fleissalm. A unique experience is the ride from the Rossbach middle station to the Fleissalm in the tunnel lift, which leads through a former water transfer tunnel.
As the majority of the pistes is above the tree line, there are also many off-piste possibilities to try a few swings directly alongside the piste. The free ride arena at the Grossglockner doesn't leave anything to be desired either. Between the Gjaidtroghöhe (2,989 m) and the mountain resort Heiligenblut (1,204 m) there are various runs for skiers and snowboarders, which are just waiting to be explored. On an area of over 15 km² hectares, free riders can really let loose. Great ski tours can be found at the High Tauern National Park - this is one of the biggest ski tour areas of the Eastern Alps. There is even a National Park ski tours bus.
The quaint huts in the ski area invite you in for a traditional snack, which you can enjoy in front of a magnificent mountain panorama. Families with children and tranquillity seeker will feel well at home here.
In Döllach you are offered numerous opportunities to be active off the pistes. Whether ice climbing with experienced guides, a fun tobogganing party on the nearby toboggan run or winter riding through the glittering landscape, the selection is large! On the ice rink in the Waldfest Arena, you can even leave your tracks in the ice until 22:00 or try a bit of curling. The vitality area in Hotel Post offers relaxation, and you can enjoy the pure, snowy natural surroundings on numerous winter hiking trails. Experience pure romance on a horse-drawn sleigh ride.
After a varied day on the piste you can come into a cosy lodge and enjoy a warm "Jaga" tea before returning with the ski bus. In the resort itself, you can let the day come to an end in Jak's Tavern. Or, explore the numerous bars in Heiligenblut!
Cross-country fans can use the trails in Heiligenblut, approx. 10 km away. Small but impressive - is one way you could describe the cross-country skiing terrain there. There is a total of 12 km of cross-country trails available here. An advantage of these trails is that the trails all start directly in the resort! The 2 km long high-altitude trail at Fallbichl is also well-suited for beginners.
The longest trail, the Glocknerloipe, measures a manageable 6 km. The "Sonnblick" trail takes you up to 950 m over a length of 4 km and is also ideal for beginners. Also those who prefer the skating style will not miss out and beginners have the possibility to take part in cross-country skiing lessons.
