Brixen in Thale - skiing fit for kings!
Brixen in Thale (794 m) is one of the oldest settlements in Tyrol and is dotted with traditional farms and mountain huts. Surrounded by the Wilder Kaiser's unique mountain landscape and the Kitzbühel Alps, Brixen is an excellent winter sport resort. The narrow lanes in Brixen's old village centre invite you on a leisurely walk. Various shops, cafés and a diverse selection of leisure activities ensure entertainment all day for young and old. In the evening you can dine to your heart's content in one of the restaurants or party in the bars and discos. Via two gondolas Brixen is now directly connected to the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser. Additionally, Brixen's winter guests will find a sprawling network of cross-country trails and a superb cross-country track at high-altitude directly in the ski area.
SkiWith the lift pass "SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental" you have access to one of the largest and most modern ski regions in Austria! On numerous occasions, SkiWelt has won prizes as one of the best ski areas in the world. 90 modern lifts, 284 km of piste (of which 254 km can be covered with artificial snow) including 23 km of ski routes, as well as three snow parks offer unlimited skiing fun. Regardless if you are young or old, novice or professional – SkiWelt has something for everyone.
Commencing with the winter season 2015/2016 Brixen offers a new lift highlight: the Joch lift - the worlds fastest 8-person gondola - was taken into operation. The engageable cabin lift has heated seating and transfers you quickly with a speed of 6 m per second and with great comfort over the distance of 2 km. Moreover, the Joch run also takes you through an underpass to cross the access road.
From Brixen you can easily reach Hartkaiser and Hohe Salve through Hochbrixen on one side, where beginners as well as experts and freeriders will certainly get their money's worth. On the other side, you can enter the Kitzbühel pistes through the Choralpe. The Big Playground on the Gampenkogel sweetens the boarder's day. The 5.5 km long valley run from the Choralpe demands some experience, whereas beginners will find great pistes on the Westendorf side or near Hochbrixen. Freeriders will get their money's worth in Hopfgarten, Scheffau or Westendorf. The region's 81 ski huts also offer a real treat.
If you are going on holiday together with your children, or if in fact you yourself have a thing for fairytales, you should definitely check out the new 10-person "discovery"-gondola in SkiWelt Söll. Interesting experiences built around the theme "Hans in Luck" await you!
By upgrading to the "Super Ski Card" lift pass, you get access to over 2,750 km of piste and 943 lifts in 22 ski regions!
Those with energy left after a full day on the piste will find plenty of evening entertainment in the Brixental Valley area. Various bars, pubs, mountain restaurants and clubs will keep you amused - the Underground Lounge and the Brixner Stadl are worthy of special mention. Restaurants and taverns are cosier, and guests can let themselves be spoilt by typical regional and international cuisine.
Enjoy the wonderful winter landscape on a long winter hike, on horseback or while Nordic walking. Further possibilities in the area of Brixen include night tobogganing and skittles, as well as torch-lit and snowshoe hikes. Ice skating, curling or swimming in an indoor pool in Ellmau and Kitzbühel are also possible. The nightlife in these resorts is also definitely worthwhile!
About 65 km of cross-country tracks run through the Wilder Kaiser, and due to their variety they suit every degree of difficulty. The widely spread network leads through sun-drenched valleys and offers access to the trails in St. Johann and Kitzbühel. Brixen has approx. 15 km of tacks available, mostly of intermediate difficulty. Especially recommendable is the high altitude track at Hochbrixen with 2.8 km length and which offers a magnificent panoramic view.
In Westendorf there is also the Auner track, with it's 12.5 km the longest in the region. Also you will find further 16 km of prepared trails in classic style and easy to challenge, as well as a 7.9 km long skating track. A further highlight is the illuminated piste in Scheffau. Cross-country fans can continue their rounds until 22:00 p.m.
