About Bregenz - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
The city is situated on a plateau falling in a series of terraces to the lake at the foot of Pfänder mountain. It is a junction of the arterial roads from the Rhine valley to the German Alpine foothills, with cruise ship services on Lake Constance.
It is especially famous for the annual summer music festival Bregenzer Festspiele. Lake Constance provides the setting for the annual Bregenzer Festspiele, a renowned summer music festival that features a different opera every second year. The concerts are performed by the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra on the vast, open-air floating stage at the edge of the lake. The stage for the production of Tosca was used in James Bond's "Quantum of Solace". Other highlights include the "Bregenzer Frühling", a dance festival of international reputation, as well as hundreds of exhibitions, concerts etc.
The region also offers a variety of outdoor sports including cycling, mountain biking, walking, trekking, and of course fantastic slopes for skiing and snowbarding in winter.
A panorama gondola takes you up to the "Pfänder" mountain from where you enjoy fantastic views of the Alps, Lake Constance, the Allgau Alpen range, the peaks of the Bregenzerwald and all the way to Widderstein at the border to Tirol
