Baden is a spa town in Austria. It serves as the capital of the Baden district of the state of Lower Austria. Located about 26 km south of Vienna, the municipality consists of the Baden cadastral, Braiten, Gamingerhof, Leesdorf, Mitterberg, Rauhenstein and Weikersdorf. The city was largely destroyed by a fire in 1812, but was rebuilt excellently in a Biedermeier style according to the plans of architect Joseph Kornhäusel.
The city was proud of a theater, military hospital and casino. The composer Ludwig van Beethoven has stayed several times in Baden, and his residences still form local tourist places.
