Bad Gastein - very special winter holidays!
The charming resort Bad Gastein lies in the heart of the national park Hohe Tauern, at approx. 1,002 altitude, in midst of the Salzburger Land. The landmark of this spa and winter sports resort is the Gastein Waterfalls, which cascade down over an impressive 200 m and which has inspired many painters and poets in the past: Furthermore it is also a great attraction for ice climbers. Along the steep alleys on the mountain side, many Grand Hotels from the time of the Emperor's reign, as well as countless buildings from the Belle Epoque dominate the resort's appearance. Winter dreams come true here: The extensive offer of sports and leisure time activities, combined with numerous spa offers and treatments, guarantee a very special holiday experience.
Already in 1958 the Graukogel was host of the Alpine Ski World Championship. Those who are looking to spend some time away from the first-class ski area, can stroll by the many boutiques and shops. The connection tunnel between the valley station and the futuristic complex of the Rock Thermal Baths is also worth seeing. Never mind if skier, snowboarder, cross-country enthusiasts or just on the look-out for relaxation - in this resort there is surely something for everyone!
SkiThe ski pass "Ski amadé" gives you access to a total of 760 km of piste and 270 lift system (see ski region)! The ski region Gastein is part of the Ski amadé and, with its 186 km of piste and 47 lifts, is one of the largest and most beautiful ski areas in the Salzburger Land. Thanks to the impressive altitude (up to 2,686 m) and numerous modern snow-making systems, excellent snow conditions are usually a given until spring.
The Gastein Valley awaits you with four ski areas: the interconnected ski areas Dorfgastein-Großarltal and Schlossalm-Angertal-Stubnerkogel, the Graukogel as well as Sportgastein. Their varied, perfectly interconnected selection of piste will make winter sports fans' hearts beat faster. Beginners can take their first winter sports steps on various broad pistes above Dorfgastein and on the other side of Fulseck mountain in the Großarltal. The mountain station at Fulseck mountain also offers a wonderful view of the Großglockner and Dachstein. Only reachable from the valley, but definitely worth a try are the demanding natural snow slopes at the Graukogel. Experienced skiers will also enjoy Sportgastein, one of the highest located ski area in the whole of ski amadé. Here you will find ski routes, deep powder snow slopes and mogul piste - the perfect place for cracks. The interconnection between Stubnerkogel to Schlossalm is the largest interconnected ski area in the Gastein Valley. Thanks to its altitude of 2,300 m it is also very snow sure. Freestyle fans will find nice snowparks at Stubnerkogel and Kreuzkogel in which you can show off your skills.
The large and versatile ski area is perfectly suited for families and children. Magic carpet lift, playing ground, ski schools and beginners' area offer optimal conditions for children making their first turns. More experienced skier families also have plenty of possibilities for good skiing along the ski area's wide and sunny slopes.
Furthermore, Wi-Fi hotspots are available in the ski area so that you can stay connected with your friends at home and load up your first pictures.
From the slope to the pub - that could be Bad Gastein's motto! Numerous eateries on the piste offer opportunities to relax and linger. Lively goings-on reign in resort, with the party-hungry heading through the bars and discos until late at night.
The disco "Silver Bulett" with live music is great for dancing, and the party is on in many apres ski bars and pubs, such as "Joe's Bar". You can enjoy an amazing view while sipping on a tasty cocktail directly above the alpine thermal bath, in the "Sky Bar".
Both of the large thermal springs promise relaxation, as does the spa centre. Numerous activities such as tobogganing, curling, winter hikes or ice skating are also offered during the day - you're certain to find just the right thing! In the evening you are offered more action on the 2.5 km night toboggan "Bellevue Alm".
History interested guests can visit the Klammstein Castle at the valley entrance, offering an exhibition about development of the castle. Families shouldn't miss out on a trip to the fortress, either: A ghostly tour is offered for the small thriller fans.
Around Bad Gastein you can find a network of approx. 20 km of prepared track, offering something to suit every taste. From 15 km of skating trails and numerous classic tracks, right up to the 5 km long floodlit piste, no wish is left unfulfilled!
A total of more than 45 km of track are available in the entire Gastein Valley, which are perfectly connected by a long valley run! Also very lovely is the trail in Angertal, which offers landscape highlights. The high-altitude trail at Sportgastein is located at approx. 1,600 m altitude and offers great views and high snow security, and is also the longest trial in the Gastein region. Here you will also find a cross-country centre with changing rooms, hire opportunities and cross-country ski schools. Floodlight skiing can be done in Bad Gastein and in the park grounds of Bad Hofgsatein.
