About Axams - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
In winter the largest skiing area of Innsbruck and surroundings, which is the Axamer Lizum, is located only 8 km from Axams! This is where some competitions of the Olympic Winter Games of 1964 and 1976 were staged. Today this skiing area is a hot spot for those who love skiing and snowboarding, and the funpark makes freestyler’s hearts leap for joy. In summer and autumn the Axamer Lizum is a popular hiking area, making you experience the beauty of nature and mountains of Innsbruck and surroundings. And after a day in the mountains we recommend you to visit the local leisure time centre “Freizeitzentrum Axams” with indoor pool, heated outdoor pool and beach volley field. A sauna world, a solarium and wellness facilities complete the offer. Moreover there is a bouldering gym, an ice skating ground and a curling ground.
The most significant building of Axams is the parish church, dedicated to John the Baptist. Originally built in Romanesque style, it has been converted to Gothic construction style in the course of time. Only the adjacent St. Michael chapel, attached to the vestry, still presents the Romanesque style.
Axams | Axams is located in the heart of Tyrol, only 10 km from the city of Innsbruck. The Celtic term “Axams” means “village on an elevation”, which is also illustrated in the emblem of the municipality by a golden mountain
