The cosy village of Auffach is the Wildschönau winter centre with the Schatzberg ski areal. The town situated at an altitude of 875 meters is primarily know for its countless hiking trails and also for the Schatzberg gondola, one of the longest single circuit trains in Austria. Far away from the hectic everyday, Auffach offers a relaxing holiday experience in the midst of beautiful natural scenery. Traditions and local culture are an important part of the charm. While on your holiday don't forget to try the "Krautinger" a Wildschönau speciality, in one of the many local inns.
SkiDue to the interconnection of the ski areas Wildschönau and Alpachtal, accessible with the new gondola, the lift pass "Ski Juwel" offers a total of 145 km of piste. With this lift pass you have access to the ski areas Markbachjoch/Lanerköpfl, Oberau, Thierbach, Schatzberg, as well as Kramsach, Reither Kogel and Wiedersberger Horn. This sums up to a total of 46 lifts, located between 600 and 2,025 m altitude! Various levels of difficulties ensure that beginner, as well as pros can really enjoy themselves here.
Children can go to Bobo's Kid's Club. For families and relaxed skiers the Schatzberg is especially attractive or also the Reither Kogel, whilst ambitious skiers can swing down the northern mountain side of the Markbachjoch and Lanerköpfl, as well as speed through various deep powder snow areas and free rider areas with 17 km of signed ski routes. The aprés ski in Wildschönau offers something for every holiday maker. Attractively situated, charming lodges and snack bars located in the ski area or valley invite guests to experience aprés ski fun. A good place to stop by right after skiing is the "Gruttn-Bar" at the Schatzberg gondola valley station or at the "Bobo's-Heustadl Bar" right next to the Markbachjoch gondola valley station. For those who would prefer a more tranquil and romantic setting, there is the slow train "Geheimnisvolle Schlucht" with a torchlit hike and mulled wine just after the evenings onset. Fun for the whole family can be found with a toboggan party at the Wildschönau toboggan run or a snow-shoe hike through the mesmerizing winter landscape of the upper valley. Awaiting you in the evening are countless restaurants and taverns with typical Tirolean specialities. Night owls can spend their later hours in the bars, pubs and discos, which sometimes have live music. With the Nightliner you will be brought safe and sound back to your accommodation after a night of celebration.
The 50 km of excellently prepared cross country runs will get the hearts of skiers beating a little faster. In a such a lovely setting, it's a dream to explore this sunny valley from Neiderau and Oberau, to Mühltal and Auffach.
The distance from the cross-country tracks to one of the many taverns is never very far, which is a big plus. The degree of difficulty ranges from middle to easy and the longest track is approx. 20 km, from the Penning track to the Roggenboden. Especially lovely is the 5 km long intermediate Schönanger run at an altitude of 1,190 m.
