About Au Bregenzerwald - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Au - Tradition and Sunshine!
Au lies in the upper reaches of Bregenzer Ache at a height of 800 m and is one of the most important tourist areas in Austria. Several leisure activities are available to guests in this region. The various, small and large ski areas in Begenzerwald, the numerous cross-country tracks and winter hiking trails are very popular here. Further possibilities include sleigh-rides in the moonlight, ice-skating or a torch-lit hike through the snowy winter landscape. The restaurants, inns and gourmet also want to spoil you with local treats.
Ski
With the "3-Täler-lift pass" you have access to 339 km of piste in a total of 31 ski areas (see ski region). The nearby ski area Diedamskopf (approx. km from Au) offers you a total of 44 diverse km of piste. Beginners, children, pleasure-skiers and the more advanced always find suitable pistes here. There is even something great on offer for freeriders. In the "Sajas Diedamspark" Snowboarders are also in their element, with boxes, kickers, rails and jumps. Should you want to take a break, you can enjoy the magnificent mountain and panoramic view at its best from the restaurants’ sun terraces.
In the ski area many Gasthäuser, with large sun terraces and snow bars, wait to be discovered. Even after your last descent of the day, the fun continues in the valley. For party-loving skiers and snowboarders the "Ski-Inn" pub is the place to be, with live bands performing on Saturdays. If you want to round off the evening more quietly, many restaurants are available and wait to spoil you with regional and international specialities. If you’d prefer a more sporty evening, you have the choice of a ride down a natural tobogganing run, ice-skating, horse-drawn or dog-sled rides or hikes.
Together with Schoppernau, Au provides 62 km of cross-country tracks, one of the largest connected cross-country areas in Bregenzerwald. The trails are mostly of easy to medium level. Directly in Au you will find the 13 km long Dörferloipe trail. The Kanisfluhloipe trail is especially recommended to nature lovers, which heads from Au-Argenstein towards Leue and on to Unterargenstein through an unspoiled landscape. With more than 300 km of cross-country trails, Bregenzerwald truely provides a real paradise for all Nordic ski fans!
