About Aschau Ziller Valley - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Aschau - pure relaxation!
In the heart of the Zillertal lies the idyllic resort Aschau, between Kaltenbach and Zell am Ziller. The small, quiet village comprises the main part Aschau and some farm years and single houses along the mountain sides and valley basin. The central location is ideal for every skier, because from here you have the choice between 2 fantastic ski areas: Hochfügen-Hochzillertal and the Zillertal Arena, which are perfectly accessible via the free ski bus service. A special highlight is the new, illuminated valley descent. The toboggan run Lengstein is also illuminated and offer fun and action for the little ones. Tranquillity and relaxation can be found on an idyllic horse-drawn sleigh ride through the wintry landscape or in a sociable round in of the many, cosy mountain huts.
SkiWith the "Zillertaler Superskipass" you can choose from 506 kilometres of piste in Hochfügen, at the Spieljoch, in Hochzillertal, in the Zillertal Arena (Zell, Gerlos, Königsleiten, Wald, Krimml and Gerlosstein), at Penken, and Ahorn, at the Horberg, in the "Ski and Gletscherwelt Zillertal 3000" (Finkenberg, Eggalm, Rastkogl, Hintertux Glacier) and at the Wildkogel-Arena at Bramberg. The ski areas are all excellently linked to one another by a free train and bus shuttle (see ski region). Since a few years, the Zillertal Arena offers free-of-charge Wi-Fi in all of its ski areas! In other words, not only can you enjoy the white bliss and the sun, but also share your latest experiences and highlights directly with your loved ones at home.
The ski area Hochzillertal-Hochfügen lies practically also directly on the doorstep! By the connection between Hochfügen and Hochzillertal there are 77 km of diverse pistes to enjoy and due to the great location snow is sure to be found until way into April. The 11 km long valley run to Aschau is a special treat. Here you can pass 1,800 metres of height on the way from Öfelerjoch to Aschau. A shuttle bus goes back to the valley station in Kaltenbach all 15 minutes. There's still some hustle and bustle on the lit valley descend in the evening hours. The Alpine valley is ideal for skiers looking a wide range of options.
Approx. 5 km from Aschau you have direct access to the ski area of the Zillertal – a piste arena with 143 kilometres of perfectly prepared pistes. 51 lift systems take you upwards to 2,378 m altitude easily and quickly. From there you can choose from various diverse descents, such as the black "Abfahrt Nr. 36" in Krummbachtal. Deep powder snow and freerider enthusiasts can explore a number of different areas, e.g. at the Arbiskogel.
The highlight in the Zillertal is an excursion to the Hintertux Glacier which is known to be one of the most challenging in the entire Alps due to its size and tricky pistes.
After an active day on the piste, Aschau offers the necessary peace and quiet in the evenings to start the next day on the slopes in full strength. Unforgettable impressions of the massive Zillertal mountains can be experienced during a wonderful winter hike and romance is sure to be found during a lovely horse-drawn sleigh ride or torch hike. Or maybe a cosy hut evening with rich Zillertal specialities and music is your way to end the day?
In the evening, toboggan races by torchlight are offered, or perhaps go on a romantic walk by lantern light. You can also spoil yourself in the many restaurants and taverns of the village. A culinary highlight of the ski area Kaltenbach-Hochzillertal are the crystal huts, which can be found in the mountain station Kristall-Express at an altitude of 2,150 m, and offer you young, creative cuisine at attractive prices. Fresh, regional products are served. In the inner huts, you can find an open fireplace as well as quaint parlours, and nice weather providing, a bar-adjacent sun terrace with lounge chairs and water beds can be enjoyed.
Night owls can really enjoy themselves with the various party possibilities in the close-by resort of Mayrhofen!
In Aschau there is a number of attractive cross-country tracks available. Especially nice is the 1.5 km long village track which is ideal for surrounding the village on intermediate difficulty.
For those with more stamina there is the Erlach trail in Aschau. This easy, approx. 11 km long trail runs along the Zillertal promenade to Erlach and back again.
