Altenmarkt is situated amongst picturesque surroundings in the Salzburger Sportwelt, at an altitude of 842 m. Several churches and chapels enhance the resort's impressive scenery. Many times Altenmarkt was a host to various winter sports events such as e.g. the Freestyle World Cup and World Cup events in downhill skiing. You can access the divine via the interconnected ski area Radstadt-Altenmarkt.
After an eventful day on the piste in a magnificent ski area, you can take part in a mix of leisure activities. Keen shoppers will have a blast as there are many shops and boutiques here, due to the good infrastructure. Sports fans can test out the toboggan runs in the surrounding area or be wowed by the idyllic landscape whilst taking a long walk. Those looking for a quieter time can round off the day in a cosy mountain lodge.
SkiWith the lift pass "Ski amadé" you have access to an unbelievable 760 km of piste, as well as 270 lifts in this huge lift pass union (see ski region)! The Salzburger Sportwelt is located in the centre of “Ski Amadé” and meets all the requirements for a great skiing holiday! In the Salzburger Sportwelt alone, there are 240 km of piste and 91 lift systems at altitudes between 619 - 2,188 m available.
The sprawling ski links Kleinarl/Flachauwinkl/Zauchensee and Flachau/Wagrain/St. Johann are the top destinations in the network and owe their notoriety to such events as the Alpine Ski World Cup in Flachau. Families, beginners and cross-country skiers will find suitable areas, whereas the pros will be drawn to Zauchensee.
Diverse funparks await boarders, e.g. the Absolut Park in Flachauwinkl, which offers everything a boarder's heart desires: rail combos, half-pipe, jib park, the "chill house" and numerous events. First-class deep snow territory can be found on Monte Popolo or around the Zauchensee. With its opportunities, the Salzburger Sportwelt sets winter sports standards.
In Altenmarkt, the interconnected Radstadt-Altenmarkt ski area offers skiers approx. 17 kilometres of piste. The gentle slopes and the practice slope directly at the resort makes the ski area perfect for families and beginners. On the other hand, in the neighbouring world cup resort of Zauchensee, a diversified ski area with pistes for all demands awaits the skiers - from the world cup slope to the carving slope to the mogul piste.
Furthermore, around 400 Wi-Fi hotspots are available in the entire ski area, in ski huts and at the lifts. You can easily update your friends at home with your newest pictures and greetings from the snow.
Those who go to the Salzburger Sport World for apres ski are in good hands. There is something for everyone here whether relaxing in a rustic mountain lodge, lapping up the party atmosphere or having a cosy cocktail, the choice is huge! Those who prefer it more low-key, can spend a quiet evening in the sauna or spoil themselves in the many restaurants offering culinary delights.
You can find both relaxation and action in the Amadé thermal bath. On an area of 30,000 m² you can find a sports- and entertainment pool, a looping slide as well as an extensive sauna complex.
Additionally, Altenmarkt and its surroundings offer countless opportunities to let off steam in the snow, such as e.g. on 3 toboggan runs. 2 of the runs are floodlit, so that you can look forward to evening tobogganing and letting the day come to an end in one of the quaint ski huts on the way. On the 47 km long winter hiking trail network, you can of course also explore the winter landscapes on foot, on a snow shoe hike, or during a coach ride. A variant entertainment and event programme round off the leisure time offers in Altenmarkt.
The Salzburger Sports World is an ideal destination for cross-country skiers. 260 km of mainly challenging trails are available, of which 45 km are near Filzmoos, 20 km near Altenmarkt, 40 km near Flachau and 22 km around Wagrain. The majority of the trails are linked to each other, which ensures comfortable access.
A hot tip is the trail at Rossbrand which is directly next to Filzmoos: a comfortable ascent up to 1,600 m with the Papageno gondola, and from there you have access to the almost 16 km long trail enjoying a magnificent view with perfect snow conditions! On the flood-lit trails at Filzmoos you can see the surroundings in a different light - a highlight for all cross-country fans!
The most beautiful trails in Altenmarkt are the "Thermen" -trail (3.7 km) and the challenging "Hochbifang" trail (6.3 km). The "Waldhöhen" trail in Zauchensee offers unforgettable impressions.
