Achenkirch - Aside from the rush!
The idyllic town of Achenkirch lies at an altitude of 916 m and is made up of many scattered districts. Located at the northern opening to Lake Achen, the gorgeous view offers a look at the mountains and one of Tyrol's largest lakes. The amazing ski area, one of Europe's largest enclosed conservation areas, the "Karwendal", is waiting to be discovered. Besides snow bikes and tobogganing, the possibility to try snow golf is also available.
Those looking for romance shouldn't miss the horse-drawn carriage rides through the sparkling snowy landscape. Culinary highlights can be found in the first-class restaurants after an exciting day.
SkiThe "Christlum" ski area (950 - 1,800 m) offers the most ski runs with 27 km of piste in the Achensee region. Altogether 13 lift systems allow for easy access to the pistes. A variety of slopes (from soft hills to mogul pistes) guarantee snow enjoyment for the whole family.
The 4 km valley run is the longest piste, both in the area and region. Those looking for an adrenaline rush should try the"Gföllalmgraben" ski run - not to be missed at 2 km long and with an altitude difference of 500 m! Boarders will feel their hearts beat faster due to the boarder cross runs, half-pipe and freerider areas.
At the mountain station "Christlum - Express" the ski tutors of the ski kindergarten are waiting to guide the small ones who will be the piste stars of tomorrow. High snow security is significant for this area, as 100% of the pistes can be covered in artificial snow. If you prefer skiing on unprepared terrain, there are numerous ski tour options in the areas around Achensee and in the Karwendel and Rofan Mountains.
Internet junkies will not have to miss out accessing the network: your guest card enables you to access the Wi-Fi network quick and easy. Hotspots at the Karwendel lift stations can be used to update your friends and family on your holiday experiences.
The region around Achensee distinguishes itself from the other après ski resorts by its tranquility and lovely natural surroundings. The huts in the ski area invite the winter sports fans to turn in, but otherwise the days rather come to a cosy and relaxing end. A typical Tyrolean evening can be enjoyed with selected foods and drink, music, entertainment and concerts. Those who still can't miss out on a bit of fun, can drop by the Saletti-Bar at the Christlum valley station or take part in après ski at the umbrella bar.
Furthermore there are numerous winter hiking trails available all around Lake Achen and also the toboggan run promises action way into the evening. Achenkirch also offers an insight into the newest trend sports: there is a snow-tubing run and also a licensed snow-kite school.
The region Achensee offers one of the largest and best-kept network of trails in Austria and was accredited 4 stars for cross-county skiing by the ADAC (German Automobile Association). In total you will find over 200 km of piste of all difficulties available, for all different types of cross-country skiers. Beginners can take part in lessons in all resorts. Achenkirch itself offers 53 km of perfectly prepared pistes located in wonderful natural surroundings.
But also the area around Achenkirch offers recommendable cross-country ski trails. A real highlight for cross-country fans is the trail from Pertisau to the Falzthurn Valley, winding along the rock face of Karwendel into the sunny valley over a length of 14 km. All resorts in the Achensee-Region have prepared trails for skating-style available. In Pertisau there are also some trails where you can take dogs on offer for a fee.
