Abtenau is the tranquil, chief city of Lammertals in Salzburger Land and lies at an altitude of 712 m, approx. 60 km south of Salzburg. In summer as well as winter Abtenau has a small village, cosy feeling, which is especially welcomed by families. This is also home to two-time champion and World Cup overall winner Alexandra Meissnitzer and the world champion David Zwilling. The illuminating winter toboggan run offers 3.2 km of tobogganing enjoyment. Also worth a visit is the ice skating rink at the sports centre in Abtenau.
SkiWith the regional lift pass "Dachstein West" you will find 155 km of piste waiting to be explored in the ski area of Dachstein West with Gosau, Russbach and Annaberg, as well as the Freesports Arena Dachstein Krippenstein and the areas of Feuerkogel, Karkogel, St. Martin, Lungötz and Dürrnberg. The 52 lift systems provide ideal access to the desired pistes. The quaint and manageable ski area Karkogel at Abtenau with the challenging "David-Zwilling" and "Alexandra-Meissnitzer" World Cup run lies directly in front of the door. Within only a few minutes you can also reach the ski area "Postalm" which partly still belongs to the resort Abtenau.
Russbach, approx. 9 km from Abtenau, offers the perfect access point to the interconnected Dachstein-West. The regional ski pass additionally offers you wonderful descents in various other ski areas, which are all connected with complementary ski buses. Especially beginners and wallowers, but also experts will find wonderful pistes which offer good diversity. The "Gaudipisten" (fun pistes) provide slalom descents with time tracking, snow-cross areas, wave and mogul pistes. And for whomever this is not enough "Gaudi" yet, can get a kick with some night skiing at the Ötscherlift.
Beginners will feel well catered for on the wide and extensively maintained blue pistes to practise their first swings. Families with children have long ago recognised that this ski region is ideal for their needs. There are many offers for the little ones, some ski kindergartens and ski camps which all provide loads of fun for children.
In the various funparks, skiers and snowboarders can equally run riot. The Dachstein West snow park in the Russbach area is the largest and most diverse, and provides jumps, rails and tables. Freeriders will find what they are looking for in the "Freesport Arena Krippenstein", a real hotspot in the freerider scene.
The panorama ski circuit "Panoronda" with a total of 44 km of piste is a diverse experience on perfectly prepared and signposted pistes. Cosy huts and sun terraces are available for breaks and especially for enjoying the magnificent panorama view.

Like this you can let others know about the fun you are having, send photos and find out about the latest news.
Apres ski fans turn into the huts and umbrella bars in the ski area - like the Knittlhütte bar at Karkogel - or into the bars and discos of the resort after a long day on the piste. Local specialities, but also international cuisine can be found in the inns and restaurants.
Let yourself be pampered, not only by the culinary highlights, but also with some relaxing spa treatments. There are three spa facilities in close proximity to Abtenau: "Aqua Salza Golling", "Heiltherme Bad Vigaun" (healing thermal baths) and the "Therme Amadé".
