If you'd like to experience some local history, then you should pay a visit to the neighbouring resort of Bad Ischl. It was here that the Austrian Kaiser Franz Joseph I. had his annual summer holiday in the 19th Century and also where he proposed to his future wife, Empress Sisi. Equally worthwhile is a walk through the neighbouring village of Hallstatt in the south of Bad Goisern and around Lake Hallstatt. In 1997 this wonderful resort was declared a World Heritage Site. Unique architecture combined with unforgettable nature makes for an experience that definitely shouldn't be missed.
